Ballroom Dance DVD
Purchasing a ballroom dance DVD can help you learn to dance, improve your moves and refine your own dancing. Because this is a popular way to learn to dance these days, there are many choices available, but there are some buying guidelines.
DVDs for Ballroom Dancing
Format
First, you know the format of your ballroom dance DVDs will be a DVD. That’s, of course, a no-brainer. But think about how the DVD is formatted. Is there more than one disc? Is the DVD formatted with different dances presented differently by different teachers or is everything mixed together with the same teacher teaching everything?
There’s really no right or wrong here, but everyone learns differently, so thinking about what you prefer will help you when you go shopping for a ballroom dance DVD.
Also consider how the DVD is formatted in terms of length. If your learning curve is determined by learning an entire dance for 45 minutes instead of 10-minute intervals, you have to consider if your fitness level allows for that length of training. If you are fit and won’t have a problem with a longer lesson, you probably won’t have a concern about the length of the lessons, but if you aren’t fit, you should carefully consider how the training is presented so you are sure you can succeed in the training.
Teacher
What do you know about the teacher who runs the class on the DVD? Check into the teacher’s credentials and give yourself some comfort in knowing that the teacher is someone who is qualified to teach you how to ballroom dance.
If you can watch an excerpt of the DVD, listen carefully to the teacher. Is that a voice you can listen to over and over again? Do you find the teacher’s voice and method to be appealing or left wanting?
Sometimes a teacher’s method can be fine in small doses, but to learn a skill through a DVD, you’ll be watching the DVD over and over again. Make sure that you can tolerate the teacher’s methods and voice.
Even though we provide this aspect as a criteria to consider, remember that most teachers who are given the opportunity to make a DVD will have some experience in teaching with these methods and will likely be considered a solid, good teacher. It’s likely that you will be satisfied.
What kind of dance?
Do you really only want to learn to Cha Cha and not much else? Or are you interested in learning a variety of ballroom dances? Think about this as you choose your ballroom dancing teaching DVDs.
If you are most interested in learning just one style of dance, be sure to find a DVD that focuses on that style of dance. You might not know which style of dance you might prefer and in that case, a DVD that features a wide array of dances will be best for you.
If you are interested in learning dance for fitness purposes, learning a variety of dances will be useful since some will help you develop cardiovascular fitness while others will help you become more limber.
Do a little research to find the best ballroom dance DVD for you. You’ll find it’s worth the trouble once you find the perfect teaching DVD for you.
